The challenge arises when we base our weight lifting routines on certain myths. This, of course, leads to wasted time, and less than optimal muscle building results. Therefore, it is safe to say, we are not getting a great natural muscle return for the precious weight lifting workout time invested.

Weight lifting myths start when one bodybuilder tells another bodybuilder who tells another bodybuilder of this new weight lifting workout technique that really works. The only problem is the theory is backed by pure fallacy rather than sound science. It is upsetting to realize the weight lifting workout world is riddled with myths. Therefore, it is my responsibility today as an Exercise Physiologist to deliver the weight lifting truth.

My top 5 weight lifting myths will not only empower your mind, but also stimulate your body to more natural muscle in much less time.

Please avoid these 5 weight lifting program myths that I reveal below. Your natural muscle building results depend upon it.

1. Use heavy weight and less reps to build muscle mass, and low weight with lots of reps to shape the muscle and increase its definition. How many times have you heard this fallacy? I have heard it thousands of times. Many women believe this is a way to "prevent them from developing big muscles." This is definitely not the case.

The fact is shaping muscle results from decreasing subcutaneous body fat. If you simply decrease your calories each day, you can develop greater natural muscle definition. Greater natural muscle definition is even possible without lifting weights, that is, if your body fat drops low enough.

Don't get caught falling for this myth. Instead decide first what your primary weight lifting program goals really are. Are you interested in building muscle mass, or increasing muscle endurance? Next you decide the number of reps, and intensity of training. If definition is your main goal then build muscle while decreasing calories in order to strip away the unwanted subcutaneous layer of adipose tissue.

2. You can reduce fat in a specific area by working that specific muscle (spot reducing). Please note that muscle growth and body fat loss is systemic in nature. It is a fact that the central nervous system triggers the muscle growth process. Therefore, overloading the central nervous system is the most important step in natural muscle development. As far as body fat is concerned, working a specific muscle group does not mean fat will suddenly melt off in that specific area. Weight training and fat loss, once again, has a systemic, not localized effect in the body.

3. You must train at a full range of motion to develop natural muscle. There has not been a study proving that "full range" reps stimulate more muscle fibers. The fact is limited, or partial reps stimulate muscle growth, and can be considered safer. Just think, almost all of our daily activities are performed at a partial range of motion. Let's take sprinting for instance. Sprinters are not running at a full range of motion, and they still develop muscle tissue. Once again, there has been no study conducted to date which confirms you must perform a full range of motion in order to stimulate maximum muscle growth.

Now I'm not suggesting in natural bodybuilding it is bad to train at a full range of motion, but possibly more effective to train at the strongest range of motion. Thus, more resistance can be applied leading to greater muscle fiber stimulation. Consider incorporating partials in your weight training workout.

In order for hypertrophy to occur in a natural bodybuilding program there are two requirements: maximum overload, and increased work in a unit time. Range of motion is not imperative to muscle development.

4. Must weight train 3 days each week or your muscles will suddenly get smaller. Many natural bodybuilders feel this is absolutely true. Please don't fall into this trap. The fact is the opposite is best. Weight lifting less allows for maximum natural muscle regeneration. Without rest the body can't overcompensate from the added stress by generating larger muscles. Once a weight lifting workout is conducted while not completely recovered from the previous session, the whole natural muscle building process will be short circuited, and compromised. Therefore, bodybuilders who train religiously 3 days per week at a high intensity level are doing more harm than good.

Don't be afraid of losing muscle if you miss a week of weight lifting. More than likely you are gaining muscle during rest, not losing it.

5. You must do 3 sets per exercise, and multiple weight lifting exercises in order to see progress. False. False. False. Studies have proven all you need is one high intensity, muscle stimulating set in order to stimulate maximum muscle growth.

There is no scientific basis, nor reasoning for performing 3 sets per exercise.

As a natural bodybuilder, and Exercise Physiologist, I know how important it is to not fall into the trap of these all too common weight lifting myths. Question: Why is my computer running so slow? Do computers slow down when they get older?

Answer: No, but here are some of the most common reasons a computer slows down.

Background programs running:

This is the biggest reason and can be fixed quickly and for free... it's possible that your computer may have so many background programs running simultaneously that there is not enough resources to run normally.

The end result of this is that your computer begins to run more and more slowly over time as you add other programs.

There are two remedies, get Anti-Spyware and use the feature which allows you to view running programs and to disable any of those running programs. Or, if you like to get into your system with your bare hands, use the remedy below.

How to disable unneeded background programs:

All icons in your computer's system tray are background programs using memory. There are more, but you will get a hint from that system tray. To see and exit all running background programs:

Windows 95 - ME

a. Press the Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys at the same time.

b. Click any program or task except Explorer or Systray,
*
c. and then click End Task.

Repeat steps b and c to quit all programs except Explorer and Systray which are necessary components of Microsoft Windows.

You should now have a clean system. See if the computer runs like it used to... if it does, you will want to prevent those programs from restarting the next time you start the computer.

You may have to delete and reload a driver to correct these problems. Duplicate drivers can and should be deleted.

As each new Windows program is installed and uninstalled, it leaves behind parts of itself that can slow down or crash your computer. These are mostly .dlls and other shared files.

It's also very possible when uninstalling a program that needed Windows system files can be deleted. When your computer asks if you want to uninstall shared files it's usually safest to say no -- even if your uninstall program claims the files are not being used.

Old Windows drivers can be found by booting into Safe Mode, then opening Control Panel/System/Devices and ridding your system of old drivers.

Otherwise, the only real answer to this problem is to pick up ERROR DOCTOR or just reload Windows into a new directory which eliminates all old junk and leftover files. Reloading Windows is something to do last, as you will also have to reload all your Windows settings, drivers, and programs.

You could be lacking system memory - The only time this may be a problem is if you have an older system and upgraded your operating system without adding some more memory. You should probably upgrade to 256 or 512MB or more of system memory, while it isn't free, it isn't very expensive like it was at one time. Beginning this school year, Ninth grade students in San Antonio Schools will have more resources in helping them gain success in academic studies, college, and future careers. In addition to their regular classes ninth grade students will be required to take Freshman Prep class. San Antonio Schools Freshman Prep class helps students create a plan for the next four years and their future. The Freshman Prep class is intended to have students be prepared for college upon graduating from high school. Students will be expected to create and follow a standardized plan that features four core subjects each year and construct supplementary areas of interest or conduits from which students can select. What Is A File With A .LNK Extension?

LNK files are shortcut files that link to an exe file somewhere on the system. These can build up in the central database called the registry and slow the system down drastically if they are not cleaned from time to time. Bill finished college in May, it was a beautiful ceremony, and was the culmination of many hard years of study. So what are you going to do now? People have the attitude that I need to work hard to support my family, but in my opinion its all for nothing if you only get to enjoy time with your family a small portion of your life. I dont know about you but when I am gone I dont want my kids to know me as a good provider, I want to be remembered as a good father, and I cannot be a good father when I am a serving and making another person wealthy and I am never around.

Goals

The first thing that you need to accomplish is set some goals for yourself, I cannot stress to you enough how important goals are in your life, set personal goals and spiritual goals. Goals will give you something to shoot for, write them down and read them everyday. Now dont set your goals unrealistically (ie. I want to make 20,000 a month in three months) start small young man and meet the reachable goal then set another one and meet that. Be specific in your goals and structure the steps to meet them, dont write a goal like I want to be a millionaire. We all want to be millionaires but we have to be a thousandaires first. Now think about what is moving the truck forward, it is the engine, consider the engine as the drive of yourself to improve your life or become successful. Now ask yourself does the tracks that the tires are leaving in the dirt make the truck go forward? The answer of course is NO. So enough with the excuses of things that have happened in the past, and it is now time to start moving forward.

Residual or Passive Income

When you are owned by another company, in other words trading your time for money, you only get paid while you are working. Wouldnt it be nice to make money all the time? This is the definition of passive or residual income. The simplest example of this is having money in a mutual fund drawing interest, it doesnt matter if your sleeping, eating, playing with your kids or whatever, you are always making money. This is what you must set in place to make a living and also do whatever else it is that you enjoy doing. Again going back to your passion, write a software program and put it on a web site, where people can pay for it and download it, and you will make money at all times, put some photographs on a site that people can buy, create a web site that generates a massive amount of visitors and sell your ad space. I also gave him a gumball machine full of gum, with an advertisement for my business services right on top of it. He will get paid a generous commission on any resulting sales.

They exchanged those cars for radio & TV credits all over the country, to be used over a five year period, and traded the cars at full retail. (Window sticker) Their money was tied up in the cars. They werent spending cash on the advertising. The radio stations were selling unsold, future time and getting the cars right away.

Chrysler took the advertising credits to the bank and got money on them to pay for the manufacture of more cars that were sold with the advertising, so the bank financed the whole program! The radio and TV credits appreciated in value over the five years! Thats leverage.

Restaurants a $10 meal costs around $3. The restaurant can barter that for $10 meal for $10 worth of radio advertising or whatever, so theyre saving 70%! Plus there are incremental sales people buy drinks, tip waiters, new customers are generated that continue to spend money. The gift certificates are called SCRIP in the Barter business. The advertising they bought brings in more customers. A lot of the meal vouchers are never cashed in this is called BREAKAGE. Remember, the overhead is already covered electricity, server salaries, uniforms, telephone, etc., is already paid for, so the profit is high.

A commercial printing business has staff and machines on hand but not is fully utilized. His only cost is the paper and ink. The rent and payroll is already paid. So he can produce printing very cheaply and trade it for things he needs now, without using cash.

Soft dollars and hard dollars: Trade TV sets that cost $300 at $1,000 retail, for hotel rooms that cost $7 and retail at $100. Both win. Soft Dollars are Barter Dollars and Hard Dollars is cash. Conserve your cash by setting up barter deals.

HOTEL EXAMPLE trade room for $100, cost is only $7.

If the average person spends $50 in other services that the hotel has, and your cost is only $7, youve made extra cash right away, plus many gift certificates never got utilized! AND you got 100% retail value in barter! And you can sell bartered goods and services for CASH.

A Beverley Hills hotel was bought out of Chapter 11 and immediately issued $3 million worth of rooms, food and drink credits to be used over a five year period. Scrip brokers bought it up for $1.5 million in cash. They cash converted future rooms.

Cash converting means trading for goods or services and then immediately selling those goods / services for cash.

Advertisers of a Shopping Mall set up a deal to pay people back the money they spent in the mall. Prove you spent $1000 in the mall and well give you $1,000 in cash! This creates what we call THE FLOW its ongoing, resulting business from barter. Store owners in the mall happily paid for advertising because they knew that, this way, it was much cheaper they only paid for the cost of goods sold (They reimbursed the retail price) so this was cheap advertising it forced people to buy in the mall.

Dentists and doctors, chiropractors and consultants, couriers, web masters, writers and such trade or barter services. I know a dentist who traded dental work for radio advertising.

Instead of using cash and time, spend more time thinking about value and JVs!

You can exchange apartments for services and pay your employees and vendors with barter and apartments,

Barter SCRIP is like printing money. It can be transferred and assigned - its legal tender.

Scrip Expiration dates the further out, the better there are many permutations. BREAKAGE is the barter credits which arent used up to 40%!

SET up a barter deal and take a piece of the action/ savings in cash or in scrip that you can convert to cash.

San Antonio Schools Receives Grants to Prepare Students and Build New Facilities

Grants Help Students Prepare for Postsecondary Education

Three San Antonio Schools high schools have received grants from the state of Texas to aid students in achieving their goals of attending college or university. The Texas High School Completion and Success Grants, totaling $200,000, were awarded to Edison Technical High School, Fox Technical High School and Navarro Academy. Each of these San Antonio Schools will use the funds in a way that will address the particular needs of its students.

Edison Technical High School plans to use the $80,000 grant to create and run the Saturday College Readiness Academy. This is an exciting and innovative program that will be jointly taught by Edison teachers and university professors. This will allow the students to get a feel for what is expected at the university level. The main goal of the Saturday College Readiness Academy is to raise the students ACT and SAT scores in order to better their chances at succeeding in the college admissions process.

San Antonio Schools Fox Technical High School is using a portion of its $80,000 grant to implement SAT and ACT workshops that will help the students become ready to take the test. Fox Technical High School also plans to use the funds to help pay for students exam fees. A teacher training for the college-preparatory Advancement Via Individual Determination program will be paid for with the remaining funds.

Navarro Academy, which received $30,000 in grant funds, is one of several San Antonio Schools that will establish an Advancement Via Individual Determination training sessions for its teachers. Navarro Academy plans to use the bulk of its grant to institute a transportation fund for before and after school tutoring and mentoring.

Even though each schools is allocating their funds to different services, they like all San Antonio Schools must improve their students scores on the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills. This program has set several important goals for all schools in Texas to increase the number of: 9th-graders graduating from high school in four years, students who graduate college-ready, as demonstrated through enrollment in a college-preparatory curriculum including Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and dual-credit courses, and students who take college-entrance exams.

San Antonio Schools Uses Funds to Build Three New Schools

Starting the 2006-2007 school year, students at Margil Elementary School, Crockett Elementary School and Douglas Academy will enjoy new facilities. Margil and Crockett Elementary Schools have moved to two brand new buildings while Douglass Academy has undergone a complete renovation of its existing facilities.

Margil Elementary, a San Antonio Schools elementary that was originally built in the early 1970s, has two newly designed features. The schools striking towers emulate the architecture of Avenida Guadalupe located nearby. The other feature unique to the school is its cafetorium, which is created by a retractable wall that when raised combines the gym and cafeteria.

Crockett Elementary School has moved into a new 104,945 sq. foot building centered on a beautiful courtyard. The newest features for the school will be an improved library, science laboratories, and larger classroom size. The schools air-conditioning system has also been updated and parts of the school that had previously not been air-conditioned now will be.

San Antonio Schools Douglass Academy, a Texas Governors Education Excellence Award winner, has received a needed renovation. The schools refurbishing has focused on the including the African-American and Mexican-American cultures of the neighborhood in its decorations and design. The added facilities include a new gym, computer lab, wireless connections, an intercom system and classrooms built specifically for the Early Childhood Program and Life Strides for special needs students.

Web Design Evaluation

Preece et al. define testing or evaluation as the process of systematically collecting data that informs us about what it is like for a particular user or group of users to use a product for a particular task in a certain type of environment. (Preece et al. 2002:317) That is to say that it is a process where the interface is tested against the practices and needs of the user. (Faulkner 1998:109) Evaluation is important in design as it aims to eradicate any problems that may be present in a system. (ibid. 1998:124) Evaluation and amendment of the design at various stages of development helps the designer to verify that the product is suitable for the users needs, that they can use the product and indeed they like the product. (Preece et al. 2002:317-319) Preece et al. refer to Tognazzini who asserts that evaluation also ensures that the design team focus on real problems, not imaginary ones. (ibid. 2002:321)

Evaluation with users underpins a user-centred approach to design. Preece et al. refer to Gould and Lewis who identify three main characteristics of this approach. There is an early focus on users and tasks which means understanding users and tasks through observation and analysis, whilst actively involving users from the early stages of design. Empirical measurement gauges the performance and reactions of users to storyboards and paper prototypes for example, in the early stages of development and subsequently to software prototypes or simulations for example. Another feature of a user-centred approach is iterative design characterised by cycles of design, test, measure and redesign. (Preece et al. 2002:285)
